Constrictive pericarditis is an encasement of the heart in a non-expansible
pericardium - usually after tuberculosis - but may follow any cause of pericarditis,
e.g. caused by viral infections (coxsackie), malignant pericarditis or uraemia,
trauma (operation) and Radiotherapy. Pericarditis may cause pericardial
effusion.
